Review of Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010) by Tim M — 10 Oct 2012
Reminded me of '02 Solaris and Moon. The influence of Lynch, Jodorowsky, Cronenberg and Zombie can be seen. Slow, quiet, eerie, and colorful. Not many movies have pupil shots, even the TCM remake omitted Hooper's critical look at the window to the soul.
The use of a pupil shot on repeat for the opening credits and it's pharmacological subjects, gives Black Rainbow a sort of Requiem for a Dream patina. Themes from Hannah, The Ring and TRON: Legacy also appear on this psychedelic journey with a surprising conclusion.
