Review of Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010) by Michael Z — 10 Aug 2013
Though Cosmatos's debut film is a loathsome viewing experience, it has some impossible-to-forget moments. The plot, however, leaves so much to be desired that the film is just not deserving of any real merit. And while it has a fair share of trance-inducing, neon-colored visual flair, most of it is photographed rather clumsily, and fails on that level as well. All said and done, Beyond the Black Rainbow isn't a bad film, but it is deeply flawed and hard to enjoy.
