Review of Berberian Sound Studio (2012) by Tim S — 06 Oct 2015
Apparently a tribute to the Italian 'Giallo' horror movement of the 1970s, I can't help but feel some of this film was lost on me. Where it does succeed is in creating a constant atmosphere of choking, breathless claustrophobia, through a blend of twisted, surreal visuals and a haunting soundscape.
I know, that's a lot of adjectives! There are certainly lots of ways to describe this film but I don't think any combination of words will quite do it justice. It is a slow burn of tension and anticipation.
