How can you possibly screw an epic poem about the hero of heroes? It has an ubber cool protagonist and not one but two (three if you count the dragon) antagonists. It has mystery, adventure and is practically written already.
This "film" is another classic example of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should.".........it's just so God-awful, they should burn every last copy ever made, save one to serve as an example of what NOT to do.
