Review of Beowulf & Grendel (2005) by Celeste J — 14 Feb 2011
I love this beautifully told story of Grendel, his loss and despair turned hatred and Beowulf's discovery of his own compassion for another being unlike him, but more like him than he anticipated. There is a strong message about tolerance that I wish more people in this world could understand. I love Grendel. I cry for him. He is utterly alone in this world and I think Beowulf and Selma are the only two people who understand.
And... as if that's not enough, just listening to Gerard speak in his native brogue is enough to compel me to watch it over and over and over.
PS... there's a great little documentary about the making of this film on location in Iceland under the DVD's special features link. It's worth watching.
