Review of Ben-Hur (1959) by Peter B — 17 Jan 2010
Now as a prelude to my review let me say - I love lord of the rings, especially the 4 hr cut of return of the king which is me favourite film. So, if a films long I dont mind as long as it keeps me interest.
Review begins - Ben hur is too long. Some film historians may yell and call me a fool but this does not need to be 3 hrs 40 odd minutes long. Its a small tale about a mans quest for vengeance after he falls out with his mate.
Thats about it. Its done well and is undeniably an entertaining film thats clear to see why it is regarded as a classic. Heston is good and it really feels epic. Its just needlessly waaay too long. The chariot race is ofcourse legendary and still wows to this day.
Soooo, its good but occasionally slow and the final 40 odd minutes especially do drag on for what seems like ages.
