Review of Ben-Hur (1959) by Jason L — 14 May 2010
It's difficult to rate an epic movie such as this one, since there are so many aspects to consider. For starters, the sprawling story was a fascinating one, tying together themes of revenge, faith, and love.
Even so, the movie got through it all at a good pace, and it never felt like it was dragging its feet. Then there are the technicalities to examine, such as the cinematography - which was amazing - and the sheer size of the production, which could never be repeated.
This is definitely a defining role for Charlton Heston, yet, personally, I did not find him as wholly engaging as I expected. All in all, this is a must-see movie, even if it is just for the famous chariot sequence.
