Review of Ben-Hur (1959) by Calvin C — 14 Nov 2011
Best Picture Winner of 1959, one of three films to win 11 Oscars, this is the granddaddy of motion picture epics. Everything about this film is so full-scale and big. Charlton Heston is the man when it comes to playing big roles and that chaiort scene....one of the most breathtaking sequences in film history. Clocking in at three and-a-half hours, the film flies by and not one single frame is wasted. You are hooked from start to finish. It is a classic tale about revenge and backstabbing set in at the time of the Christ which paralells Ben-Hur's journey. This film is biblical figuratively and literally and it is hard to imagine if it will ever be matched again.
Grade: A+.
