Definitely sets the tone for modern film epics. Everything in this movie is gargantuan. Though some elements are leftovers from a more naive era of filmmaking, you have to admire Wyler's unparalleled directing.

Each set piece is perfectly executed, culminating in the flawless and still wholly exciting chariot race. David Lean no doubt had to up the ante when working on his next epic, Lawrence of Arabia (1962).
