Review of Belly (1996) by John M — 14 Mar 2008
Pretty much what you would expect from an all-rapper cast. It's barely even a movie; it's much more like a super-extended music video. The ebonics are sometimes indecipherable and Ox, the Jamaican character, has an accent so thick that I seriously doubt anybody on the set knew what he was saying.
I barely knew what was going on, not that I really cared. It's insulting how this movie attempts to have a good message: it glorifies "hustling", that is drugs, sex, guns and violence, and then gives an obligatory lecture wagging it's finger at the audience.
"One.".
