Review of Belle (2013) by Michael A — 03 Apr 2014
Possibly the worst film of the decade. Not because the story isn't interesting, or the acting less than adequate, but because the editing is horrendous. The storytelling is missing. The film has no rhythm or emotion. It is about 70 min too long. It fails to build any kind of emotional connection with the characters. Sam Reid comes across as an irritating weepy child, and has no chemistry with Belle at all. And then there is the story itself...interesting on the history channel and to folks over 60 who still think the subject controversial. The film is worse than Amistad, which was so cheesy it hurt to watch.
Skip Belle. Anything would be more interesting and insightful.
