Review of Belle (2013) by Damjan R — 20 Aug 2014
Belle tells the (true) story of a mixed race girl growing up in an English aristocratic family in the late 18th century, and her struggles to be loved & accepted in society; Jane Austen with a racial twist.
It's a worthy subject with solid performances (especially from Tom Wilkinson & Emily Watson) but the static shots and heavy exposition make it feel more like a well made TV drama than a proper film.
