Review of Before Midnight (2013) by Andreas W — 08 Aug 2013
Before Midnight, like its predecessors, retains its charm of effortless dialogue that feels so natural and almost unscripted. Most startling is the absence of the promise of romance and possibilities which were so inherent in the first two installments.
What we have instead is the aftermath that every rom com doesn't show you after the credits roll - the dissection of every life choice, every minute decision made, events that shape individuals in the course of their relationship in the name of commitment and love.
What is gained? What is lost? Was it all worth it? Hopefully we will find out in Jesse's next book. I do hope he includes those fascinating characters that intersect in different space time continuums.
