Review of Becket (1964) by Michael S — 03 Jan 2008
Peter Glenville did some fine films in the 60es but this is probably the greatest. And with the two greatest british actors at the time together for the first time, how could he fail. Both received Oscar-nomination but it is O'Toole who deserved to win.
This is his finest and most impressive performance - even superior to his work as Lawrence of Arabia. John Gielgud does not need much space to secure himself a supporting actor-nomination and both screenplay and production values are faultless.
