Review of Becket (1964) by Jeffry J — 12 Nov 2010
I've always wanted to see this movie and finally did. I've always had a thing for medieval dramas set in England (A Man For All Seasons, Lion in Winter) and this one, while not up to the level of those two great films (some admittedly stilted direction and staging), the film is entertaining and enhanced greatly by the performances of the two leads.
O'Toole is especially good, capturing the pain behind the petulance of King Henry the 2nd as his own political machinations unwittingly lead to him losing his best friend to the church.
