First off, Disney's production design continues to be such a treat and "Beauty and the Beast" is no different, transporting us to the gorgeous spectacle of 18th century France.

Emma Watson and Dan Stevens are fantastic in their titular roles. Though it's painfully obvious that Watson's vocal coach was American, both give great performances not just musically but also physically keeping their characters engaged in the moment. Billl Condon (Gods & Monsters, Dreamgirls) has focused direction and his narrative comes through very naturally, giving beautifully nostalgic moments that echo the 1991 animated masterpiece. The cinematography, costume design, and CGI are all Oscar worthy, and is a credit to everyone involved.

The supporting cast are fantastic and bring further life to their iconic characters. Although nothing stands out, both Evans and Gad deserve a nod for their performances breathing great comic relief into the strong drama woven into the story. And kudos to Emma Thompson holding her own as Mrs. Potts knowing everyone was going to judge her solely by her performance of the title song.

Alan Menken's score is as moving now as it was over two decades ago, and the full soundtrack strikes a lovely balance between the score we revere from the animated film and what feels like the stage show.

All in all, this is a beautiful and entertaining movie- a treat to watch, sing along with, and just enjoy. The main flaw in the film, however, must be noted- was it necessary? The movie is a grand spectacle highlighting one of the brightest talents in Hollywood in Emma Watson & and VFX work of Digital Domain. But as charming and lovely as it is, it still already existed in more or less the same format. And that's what keeps this from being "great" - It's really good and quite the film making endeavor but doesn't quite have the charm the 1991 Animated film does due to the fact we've all seen and heard these songs/story before. Regardless, the numbers show that Disney won't stop the live action remakes anytime soon. So, look to Pixar for more original materials (sort of).
