Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by Eden D — 01 Apr 2017
I really enjoyed this updated version of the Disney animated film. I especially enjoyed the, hidden in the set, references to the 1941 La Belle et la Bete by Jean Cocteau. Your kids will love it and so will you.
That being said, I think the critics and media are focusing a little too much on the whole "Belle is a feminist" aspect. Sure, Belle is not your traditional Disney princess in need of rescuing, but it isn't the main focus of the film. This story is about finding the inner beauty of a person and not judging them on outward appearances. This is a far more important lesson for children than whether or not Belle is wearing boots or heals.
