Review of Beautiful Thing (1996) by Jessica W — 10 Jun 2008
Seems I have a knack for watching sweet movies lately.
Terribly sweet, touching and remarkably true to life. The heavy British accents take a few minutes to sink into and comprehend, but once the story gets off the ground, this is a simple, but wonderful film. It doesn't overemphasize any message, and manages to escape what would be a cheesy ending with a touch of sentimentality and genuine romance that would make you feel sorry to laugh at it.
It has a kind of innocence to it, but still tells a very real, sometimes troubling story with real emotion and real people - I like that. :).
