Review of Beatriz at Dinner (2017) by Mario M — 14 Oct 2017
Ok, I actually had higher expectations about this movie. I like Salma and have seen other movies and I believe she did a good job, but something left me wanting a bit more. Honestly? I see her character more of a stereotyped and perhaps a bit of a nutty case case more than an woman who lives for life to the fullest.
I don't know, there was also a darker side of her, the long panned shots of her face, lost in her own thoughts were a little creepy for me. I don't know, I would've like this aspect not so stressed.
On the other hand, there was little reference to race, the 'white' characters to me played a more credible role, and again, I don't know but Lightgow's character was even likable, I have to blame'Third rock from the Sun' for that, I can't keep my mind away of that one.
Anyway, I think Salma did a good job in portraying a somewhat despondent individual, the movie perhaps delivered what it had intended. Not everything has to be bells and whistles, I guess...
