Review of Beatriz at Dinner (2017) by Tim H — 07 Jul 2017
Just watched this incredible Movie. I didn't read any reviews of this movie before I went, so I had no idea what this movie was going to be about. Warning: This is a quiet, internal journey with very subtle ethical, emotional and spiritual nuance so it will not appeal to the masses.
For anyone who is working for or wanting to work for the betterment of humanity and has a deeply tuned empathic nature with life, this movie will be a multidimensional journey into the beauty and darkness of human nature.
If you are expecting a comedy, forget about it. This movie is a deep case study into the pathology of our materialistic shadow and the journey of one deeply sensitive and ultimately courageous woman who is compelled, because of deep pain and suffering, to finally make a stand against the socio and psychopathic tendencies of human nature.
I found the storyline compelling, the casting perfect, and the acting flawless. I don't say this very often.........sometimes I can go a couple years before I come in contact with a film that has the depth of this movie.
Most people go to the movie's to be entertained and distracted and have no interest in looking into the deeply painful and destructive action's that the materialistic mind imposes on this world.
So this movie will find a lot of resistance and a lot of negative reviews. After seeing the movie I read a handful of reviews and many people don't like or understand the ending. The only problem I have with this movie is that it ended a bit too soon.
Another 5 0r 10 minutes for Beatriz to complete her journey would have helped more people to understand more fully what she was going through and why she did what she did at the end. One of the top 10 movie experiences of my life.
