Review of Beatriz at Dinner (2017) by Pat R — 17 Dec 2017

This is a brilliant film about the deep depression caused by the incredible, mindless greedy and self-involved people in the world, and deleterious effects it has on the thinking, and spiritually responsible of the world. It is a reflection of what so many humans go through globally on a daily basis as greed destroys health care and health, environment, countries, women, children, the ability to feed, clothe and educate ourselves, all for the sake of the pleasures of a small number of privileged monsters. Lithgow is a mega monster, while the other dinner guests are the ignorant, clueless, equally soul-less demi-monsters, whose presence and actions cause the increasingly depressed and exhausted Beatriz to slowly unhinge with every moment, every sip and every pull of smoke.

It is a mirror of the world at this point in time, and in the US on many fronts politically, spiritually, emotionally and more, yet most US Americans are too slow to understand the bigger picture and true effect of what is happening, much like the other dinner guests. Yet at this moment there is an epidemic of women just plain and simply not waking up due to the repeated rapes they have suffered in the name of war and political gain, and people are gunning down others in places of worship and schools out of the sheer frustration caused by the Lithgows of the world taking everything from everyone on a continuous basis, like the pharmaceutical companies, the AMA, politicians, destructive food producers and the list goes on and on, all so that they can feed the self-aggrandizing greed monster that runs them. It is a horror and a nightmare, and it has nothing to do with liberalism or conservatism, it is all a crisis of spiritual grounding, and the exhausted "aware" are dropping by the wayside in droves, too depressed to carry on. Hayek was brilliant, as was this statement on the evil of the world simply pushing the rest of the world into emotional chaos, with no governing system to stop themselves, and requiring the will of the few to resist their constant barrage of evil. Well done. My preference, though even more unrealistic (not that the film was trying for realism, but for an interpretation of the collective despair) would have been for Lithgow to have been pushed off a boat in the middle of the ocean among a school of sharks, but that's a different story.

We are living in a world of Idiocracy, but it ain't funny, and since only a few were pro wrestlers like Commancho, many won't have the continued strength to fight a mindless evil that knows no bounds.
