Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) by Mayank A — 06 Nov 2016
I always enjoy and adore Cary J. Fukunaga because he certainly is one of the most gifted director who knows how to tell the story, even for a split second of one segment, by simply using the camera. Idris Elba plays the cruel commandant. You can tell that at first he might not be able to get the grip of the "authentic" African accent so very consistently and still can hear his British accent but no matter, he is really good and convincing. Abraham Attah, who plays Agu, is just more than brilliant and a shining star.
It is based on a true story and unfortunately child soldiers still happen in many corners of the earth. We either choose to ignore the problem or we find it difficult to be involved in solutions-finding at all. Incredibly intense and sad story, Beasts of No Nation.
And once you listen to the soundtrack, it is impossible to un-hear it for the rest of your life.
