Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) by Ayrton C — 07 Apr 2018

"Beasts of No Nation" is a haunting film that stays with you long after the credits roll. This movie is certainly not a casual watch and is tough to sit through at times, but it is very compelling.

All of the characters in this movie feel very real, and I never felt like I was watching actors, but rather actual people put in this situation. Both Abraham Atta and Idris Elba carry this film with chillingly effective performances.

I do feel that the movie slows down in its final act which takes away from the experience since the rest of the film gains steady momentum. Nonetheless, this is a well-made movie that is fascinating, powerful, and heartbreaking.
