Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) by Theoddflick — 27 Oct 2015
A brutal portrayal of the effects of war upon a child. Well acted and filmed in a manner that captures what it must feel like to be living within such terrible conditions. But the sometimes graphic depictions of violence, at times wades into "sadistic violence porn".
I do not feel that showing the high definition gore adds anything too the horror of war, but that it only lowers the film making process to cheap voyeuristic violence. Art and creativity can carry the same depth without the plebeian bloods spurts.
