Fantastic "chick flick", weepy! Brilliant performances from two great actresses. This is the only performance of Bette Midlers' that I actually rate. She is wonderful as the brassy, red headed singer who's Mum has pushed her onto the stage from a young age.
Barbara Hershey plays the perfect well bred young girl who turns into the perfect well bred young lady and is the perfect "ying" to Bettes' "yang"!! If you like to watch a film that is fast moving and full of twists and turns but that pulls you slowly and surely to an incredibly moving and heart wrenching finale, then sit yourself down with a bucket of popcorn or a box of chocs and put the ansaphone on for an evening of love, laughs but, more than anything, lasting friendship thru thick and thin!! Enjoy.
