Review of Beaches (1988) by Jon C — 20 Jan 2017
A classic female buddy flick.
Barbara Hershey and Bette Midler are a dime-a-dozen.
The movie begins at a beach and ends at a beach with two young girls meeting unexpectedly; Hillary is the proper artistocrat and CC is the no-holds-bar upcoming starlet, from different worlds completely but they form a friendship that lasts a lifetime.
As they grow up they both strive for their dreams and aspirations yet they're constantly torn apart from being envious of one another.
From marriage to being on top of the world in show business Hillary and CC see that finding stability where they are is challenging.
In the end it's themselves that get them through the toughest of ordeals.
Overly-melodramatic but still a sleeper hit.
