Review of Beach Rats (2017) by Kristen H — 11 Aug 2018
I really rooted for the main character and saw this as a coming-of-age, finding-yourself story for most of the movie; until I just couldn't anymore. This movie highlights the emotionally and physically violent impact of fear, heteronormativity, and homophobia; the internalization of oppression.
What makes this a good movie is the intensity of the ?negative feelings you will experience watching it. I'm highly disappointed that it ended without being able to see the actual development of the protagonist.
Overall he made extremely small progress, though the acting was notably excellent.
