Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Daniel S — 25 Jan 2008
Did anyone else notice all the sex metaphors? Example - immediately after the sailors spot an enemy battleship, the movie cuts to a shot of a cannon. I know there are only so many things you can cut to when you're filming on a battleship, but still, you have to wonder. (And you stop wondering once you discover that Eisenstein was gay).
But other than that, I loved this movie. It may be 82 years old, but it's just as powerful and revolutionary today as it was when Eisenstein first unleashed it on the world.
