A very compelling and effective piece of pre-Russian Revolution propaganda. As a prop piece, it may possibly be the most effective ever created. As a film, it still ranks extraordinarily highly. Eisenstein uses montage super-effectively, constantly juxtaposing contrasting images, and metaphoric stills to enhance tension, and subtly reinforce his political position.

In addition, I found there to be a plethora of phallic symbols, often representing oppressive tsarism, yet also at times acting as a metaphor for the proletariat's stand. It's not particularly entertaining, but on a historical level, it's right up there with the great silents from the era.

A must watch for cinephiles.
