Review of Battlefield Earth (2000) by Julian I — 28 Jun 2012
There are countless reviews for 'Battlefield Earth' - almost all of them unflattering - that generally sum up the experience. Yes, the acting is atrocious (one wishes that John Travolta and Forest Whitaker would stop laughing so much), the camera angles are extremely annoying, music is ridiculously overused, and the dialogue is tedious at times.
But, really, this isn't the sort of film you'd walk out of, with enough special effects (quite impressive) to tolerate surrounding flaws. With some it's-so-bad-it's-good qualities, 'Battlefield Earth' isn't really the complete and utter turkey you've been lead to believe, but it's not the sort of standard of cinema you'd want to come across all too often.
