Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Eric M — 20 Jun 2012

I'm not sure why there is so much hype surrounding this film, especially in its comparisons to The Hunger Games. I, for one, actually enjoyed The Hunger Games because there was character development and legitimate statements about our sickening reality tv culture.

Battle Royale, while trying to be a satire, felt like more of a joke and was peppered with absolutely absurd dialogue that made this movie a caricature. I may be one of the few "uncool" people to like The Hunger Games more than this, but there is a reason The Hunger Games gained much more popularity.
