Sometimes funny, mostly brutal, an ironic satire of what could happen in a ultra-conservative society. Not as fluffy as that other "survival kill-em-all piece" but unlike that, Battle Royale doesn't pull any punches and gets down and dirty right away, unapologetic and doesn't ask for any sympathy for any of its characters.
