Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Lonzo N — 25 Jun 2012
With Battle Royale and The Hunger Games having similar plots, which is better? This one obviously. Battle Royale is a magnificently made japanese flick about a future where kids have committed large amounts of crimes.
So, the adults find a way to deal with this problem. They select 42 children at random (21 boys and 21 girls) and have them fight to the death until one is left standing. The reason that this film is far superior to its young adult sister is because of the depth of the characters.
Each child has a dark backstory to tell. Also, this film is incredibly violent, which has you feeling even more regretful of the kids who lose their lives (more than The Hunger Games where you could barely see what was happening).
Battle Royale is a conquest is filmmaking and is an experience that I will never forget.
