Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Cade H — 10 Dec 2015
Battle Royale, not the 3D version, was a crazy Japanese film about a society that put kids on an island, and had them battle to the death. It was roughly what the Hunger Games was based on and while the general premise is the same, not much else carries over into HG.
There are some brutal scenes and seeing these high school age kids shoot, stab and slice at one another was a little bizarre but exciting as well. There was a lot of dialogue and character development and it had you rooting for the good guys and wanting the bad kids to get killed.
At times it got a little hokey but there were enough decent battle scenes and interesting moments to make Battle Royale a fun film to watch.
