Battle Royale is a dark, twisted tale in the vein of The Hunger Games or Lord of the Flies. The action is good. The story is suitably dark and twisted. But, there is also some fascinating commentary on the relationship between students and teachers in Japan.
I really like this combination of scifi, dystopia, action, thriller, melodrama.
