Review of Battle of Britain (1969) by Ian N — 11 Aug 2007
An all around film which gets to the emotions and details of a conflict whose lessons have unfortunately been forgotten for many, but still create a sense of pride for a free people whenever you view what was a technical masterpiece when it was first released.
The cast and sets were top notch. The fighting sequences were the most realistic of any film based on the Second World War, using actual aircraft from the actual conflict time period (ignore the bad effects for blaze used on wounded aircraft though, it would have been perfect if otherwise).
The moral of the story is perfect, and the constant darkness of the situation throughout with a sudden victory and impending larger conflict make this film one of the best of its genre.
