Review of Battle of Britain (1969) by Alan H — 28 Aug 2010
Good but by no means great WW2 film that focuses on the air battles fought over the south-east in 1940. The action scenes do look very dated, but have a charm of their own and the Spitfire dogfights still graphically convey the bravery of the young pilots.
Dramatically however, the film is flat, with very little historical background as to the importance of the fighting, few subplots save an excruciating bickering romance and only a few moments which really bring home the horrors of war, the emphasis being on earnest "good old Brits" propaganda.
