Review of Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) by Bobby K — 25 Jul 2016
The Killing Joke is, whether or not I like it, one of the most influential Batman books of all time and it deserved a better adaptation than this. The additions to the story are simultaneously poorly thought out and unnecessary especially since a central concern was how the book needed more story to become feature length, yet there are omissions from it.
The animation is choppy more often then not, and the general design is lackluster even before you remember how amazing Brian Bolland's art in the original book is. The direction fails to deliver on the emotional aspects of the story, often making you wonder why this story is worth watching at all.
Not even Mark Hamill, arguably the greatest Joker of all time performing some of the best lines associated with the character, makes this film any easier to sit through. So, yeah, even ignoring the highly questionable way it portrays Batgirl's relationship with Batman, this is not a worthwhile film.
