Review of Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) by Sam O — 02 Nov 2017
Like many batman fans, I read the killing joke before watching the movie, even though I'm not much of comic reader. Then I saw the movie and... well not a big shocker, I hated the first third. While the first third was paced and animated well, I kept on questioning, 'Where's the Killing Joke?' It would've been better as it's own thing.
But as for the rest of the film, that is actually The Killing Joke, I still had minor problems with. It is just... too faithful, panels, dialogue and every action is just copied from the comic. Nothing new is being added.
If the writers bothered to make the original comic longer by adding new elements, making certain scenes longer (primarily the Joker's past), this could've been a masterpiece. So in my opinion, I recommend you stick to the comic, unless you want to hear Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy say these lines.
