Review of Batman Forever (1995) by Adriano V — 28 Jul 2012
While Batman Returns was a flawed film it was still interesting and it was sporadically, very good (I emphasise the word sporadically) . It was the unavoidable flaws which made it merely 'good' but it still had something unique that somehow could only really have come from Burton.
Batman Forever is a straightforward, occasionally bland, popcorn flick which could have been made by anyone and really feels like it has just come off a production line. It's strength is that it is a solid 'popcorn' flick which is well carried out. The main difference is that this is a lot more accessible than Burton's films. Rather than the dimly lit gothic settings Schumacher uses colour in an almost fearless manner. This results in a much more light hearted take on the Batman franchise. It's an enjoyable romp and Kilmer is a decent Batman, just don't expect anything challenging.
