Review of Batman (1989) by Ronald F — 11 Aug 2013
Hard to compare this movie today with the ultra realistic Dark Knight trilogy movies created by Christopher Nolan; but in 1989 this movie was highly anticipated by fans. For me, a lifelong Bat fanatic it was a dream come true.
Director Tim Burton and Production Designer Anton Furst created a wonderfully dark, and fantastically nightmarish Gotham City in which Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight combated his arch-enemy the Joker played with maniacal glee by Jack Nicholson.
In some ways I almost prefer this telling of Batman. It reminds me more of the Batman's comic book beginnings. And by the way, I still think the Batmobile in this movie is far cooler than that all-terrain vehicle in the Nolan movies.
The other may be more practical, but you just can't beat style.
