Review of Basic Instinct (1992) by Lloyd H — 27 Jan 2013
Im not a big fan of Michael Douglas or Sharon Stone, but anything directed by Paul Verhoeven is worth a watch. The tone and atmosphere is full of suspense and mystery but sadly the plot points muddle themselves and the story never really takes off.
The pacing is gittery and bar the constant sex scenes which might as well be labelled as soft porn, the wrest of the film isn't very eventful. The supporting cast is full of too many faces and unforgettable performances.
I appreciate the film shares some of the same codes and conventions of a Hitchcock film, but there's no comparison in quality. Basic Instinct is worth a watch, but in my opinion its overrated and just an average film.
