Review of Basic Instinct (1992) by Doug F — 24 Feb 2009
Oh Sharon Stone, we sure do miss the days when you were the most desirable woman on the planet. Recently, I've discovered that I'm not a Paul Verhoeven fan. All of his films seem to have this layer of cheese about them and come across as really artificial.
Sometimes the stories are good enough that the film works anyways (ie. Total Recall) but Basic Instinct doesn't have that going for it. He resorts to cheap theatrics and a manipulative soundtrack to force a response out of the audience.
