I got to say this film was pretty good. They definitely got the artistic vision across.

The story was very intriguing. Very deep and thought provoking. Definitely thrilling and suspenseful. The genius behind the characters, particularly Stone's character, is amazing. The depth is fascinating.

The acting was also good. Douglas is a vet and really channeled the suppressed aggression his character has about his past. His wonderful execution of the character also adds to it's depth. The cake, however, is taken by Stone in her portrayal of Catherine. Her demeanor just screams bloody murder. You take one look at her and your blood runs cold. Her cool, evil attitude and pension for doing whatever she wants, when she wants, gets to you. She's a very intimidating character and the execution of it is great.

Editing wise (and partly story-wise) I do feel the sex was a little too much. I watched the version that had the uncut material and I feel if I had watched the theatrical version, I'd like it just as much. I am all for free expression and completely against censorship, but I just feel it went on a little TOO long, particularly Douglas and Stone's first bed encounter in the film. If that was trimmed down and kept down, it would have been just as enjoyable.

Overall this is a pretty good movie...a pretty good and twisted movie at that. It is definitely a crime thriller and sets you on a crazy 2 hour ride with plenty of crazy twists and turns to keep you on edge as well as intriguing thoughts and eye-candy (albeit a tid-bit too much). If you're not a fan of twisted, psychological thrillers with psychopathic characters, you may have trouble accepting the intensity of this film. But that doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't see it. If you are a fan of such films, definitely see it when you next get a chance to rent a movie. Worth the watch.

(Note: I'd advise watching this alone or with equally disturbed friends, otherwise they may think you're a bit insane...and parents and girlfriends may just be uncomfortable.).
