Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Zaidsheikh94 S — 04 Jun 2013
I have to admit I am dissappointed. Knowing that this film was directed by Stantley Kubrick, my expectations were sky high. The film defintely falls short on a dramatic and emotional level. No doubt there were scenes which might tingle your spine. But this movie is considered a classic. It could have been much better. Plus the film was let down by its pace. A movie can move at a slow pace if it has a lot to offer(especially drama). This movie didn't offer much.
However, the film wasn't bad at all. The sets and costumes were spectacular. The cinematography of 18th century Europe was beautiful. The performances were pitch perfect. Most of all, I liked the score. The composer included classical music from the 17th century and 18th century.
Overall, this movie was a let down. Maybe, my expectations were too high. But I would definitely recommend this movie.
