Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Salman F — 19 Jul 2018
Three hours long isn't a guarantee for people who still don't really understand what is a movie or those who just want to enjoy it, especially this is a history and drama, both two genres which are unusually loved by people.
From the director of 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Full Metal Jacket, Stanley Kubrick adapted a story from a novel about the rise and fall of Barry Lyndon. It's not like you want to enjoy the plot and the story because this movie has a very slow pace.
However, the story continually shows something unpredictable from the experience of the main character. Regardless, the film takes on a subject from the 18th century as if you were watching a moving painting from the century.
The use of costumes, lighting, background, thick dialogue, as well as its apparent property, seems like we witness a history. Barry Lyndon, by far, is one of my favorite underrated masterpiece by Stanley Kubrick.
