Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Philip Z — 22 Nov 2013
One of Kubrick's most underrated films. This lavish and gorgeous-looking period drama often gets overlooked because it isn't as flashy as Kubrick's other films and the fact that it runs at about 3 hours. Though I preferred the first act to the second act, I was fascinated by the film as a whole. It is about a man who has the best of luck and the worst of luck. He isn't particularly someone who is destined to be successful, but he finds a way by meeting the right people. Many will dread the slow-moving pace, but for those willing to sit through it, they will get one of Kubrick's most complete works in my opinion.
Grade: A-.
