Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Jong-Won L — 08 Feb 2009
Hmm... heard how this is a hidden gem of kubrick's genius. been wanting to see this for ages. spent most of the film jaws dropping on the use of light, and impressed by period portrayal. unfortunately, the other, I am sure, deliberate conceptual expression by kubrick of the film, notably the languid pace, the stiff acting, impartial disinterested tone of the story all make it less than a...enjoyable experience.
It was 3 hours of watching gorgeous photography, kind of like those wild life documentaries that actual stay true to wild life, without adding in human imagined drama to spice it up.
Saw this straight after tokyo sonata and again is philosophical piece on human's ineffectualness in the face of a socities mindless workings.
