Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Ben D — 10 Apr 2012
Barry Lyndon, Kubrick's adaptation of Thackeray's novel, was for many years misrepresented as the weakest film in his canon. It was long unavailable. It is, however, yet another masterpiece - unlike anything he had produced before - or would since - and it's power is harder to define, but it is a film that rewards the patient viewer.
A note should also be made of the lighting in this film - phenomenal doesn't begin to cover how excellent it is.
