Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Andy P — 01 Mar 2014
A fascinating period film that awes in both scale and character. While it lags a bit at times (somewhat expectingly given its 3 1/2 hour run time), you cannot help but be completely taken by the title character's journey through the classes in 18th century European society.
O'Neal delivers a masterful performance that while not necessarily exonerating the character, makes you like and root for him anyway. One hopes that Barry Lyndon learns something from his exploits, and the results are often complicated.
With "Barry Lyndon,"Kubrick crafts a masterfully epic, satirical vision that ranks among his best.
